Anime is not a phase. Anime is a life long commitment.

“Ah, they were not lying when they said that you were quite intelligent. Very well.” Her smile faded slightly. “I have my reasons, things you won’t care about. To put it simply… Freedom. That is what I shall get out of this. Truly, you are losing nothing. You are not allied with the North, nor bound by a betrothal to me. I do not see any potential for a war, nor anyone to suspect your reasons for pointing out the Northern kingdom’s betrayal of the treaty.”

Running her fingers through her own snowy hair, she played with a curl while continuing. “I doubt anyone will miss the treaty. Well, maybe the Southern Lord but I don’t know him enough to confirm it. What do you say? Hmm? What harm can it do?”

Even if he did not care about them per say, that did not mean he did not want to know. Still, for the time being, he would remain silent on the matter. “I have to wonder where it is you garner your information from, when you socialize so little.” Sesshomaru murmured dryly, hands in opposite sleeves as he turned his attention to the scenery, though he still listened with an acute ear.

“Much harm as come from seemingly harmless decisions.” Onigumo had wanted Kikyo’s heart, and he had turned into a vile creature hellbent on destroying the Earth; if that was not enough of a reason to be wary, he did not know what was. Though he had to agree, if only marginally. “Perhaps you are correct, if only because the treaty has become more of an excuse for unnecessary celebration. I suppose I shall aid you, for the time being. Be warned that should anything of suspicious nature arise, the consequences will be dire.”

"I am the daughter of the lord himself, whom enjoys to keep me locked within a castle for countless days on end. Unfortunately for him, a bored child with nothing better to do but pick locks has a tendency to spy on important meetings and read classified reports." She frowned disapprovingly at the young lord for his opinion about needing to socialize more to obtain such information. "Sesshomaru, you do not need to socialize to gather this type of information."

Noli laughed slightly at his final statement. “Like what? Kill me? My dear Sesshomaru, that would be a blessing at this point. Do not threaten me with things that will release me from this pathetic world, it will not get you anything from me.”

Pleased that she had the support of a powerful lord, Noli nodded. “I shall make like the wind and disappear. Til we meet again sesshomaru!” Noli had already left, not returning to the festival this time.

Noli looked up at Inuyasha with a bit of surprise, her hand gently massaging her ankle while she talked to him. “Well, I didn’t exactly expect it to be so deep. Usually these wells are much shallower. Anyhow, Keade asked me to search for a blue flower, and this was the only one I found that properly fit her description.”

Leaning down, she picked the flower and held it carefully in her hand. For a moment, she was reluctant to take his hand. After all, they weren’t exactly friends let alone on good terms. “Thanks.” Noli took his hand and got on his back, the fact that she felt awkward obvious by her body language.

Her word of thanks was met with a grunt as Inuyasha climbed up the side of teh well. The sun was looming over the trees when he heaved them to the top and over the edge to land on hsi feet on the grass. His hands were around her knees and he angled his ears back toward her.

“Ya need me ta take ya back to Kaede?” he asked. Though it wasn’t exactly asked out of caring, his voice was mild and he made no motion of setting her down. In his mind, she could have been hurt and he didn’t exactly want to leave her out in the woods like that. Though he didn’t really want to trek across the island with her, he didn’t want her to be killed either.

"Why not? Your already carrying me so it couldn’t possibly be anymore of a hassle… unless you think I am heavy..?" It was an obvious trick question, a trap that would give her free reign to yell at him. No woman like to hear they were heavy or fat.

Truth be told, Noli’s ankle was still sore. She knew that it would be perfectly healed again by the end of the hour, but it would pointless to waste a chance to gauge Inuyasha’s basic strength… or even his kindness.

A twinge of irritation hit him, but it left as quickly as it came. “I had thought that would have been obvious.” Of course he was nothing like the majority of the other youkai; he  was more in control of himself, and hardly a slave to his baser instincts. If he had his way, these festivities would not be mandatory, or even in existence at all.

One could only hope that they did not last too much longer as the years passed, or he may lose his mind to annoyance.

“How nice of you to return the glass,” Sesshomaru responded wryly as he grasped the glass again, and handed it off to one of the servers without a second thought. Brows furrowing slightly as she leaned coser, he had to resist the urge to push er away at the invasion of his privacy, but her words caused him to pause - admittedly, he was intrigued. Enough to play along for the time being, if nothing else.

He did not watch as she leaved, but waited a few moments before leaving in the same direction she did, more then happy to return to the forest. She was spotted not soon after, as he tracked her unique scent. “I would have pretended to be interested in anything to leave - but, I suppose your ‘story’ shall do. What is it, then?”

She was leaning against a tree, her eyes focused on the rising crescent moon. “This ‘story’ may lead to something that we both want, if everything goes according to plan. We both know you don’t like the treaty, and I can not blame you.” The young lady pushed off of the tree and faced him, her face full of seriousness. “The treaty is full of holes. One having to do with the army agreement. I will not go into detail, but if exposed correctly… it can cause the treaty to become null and void. Wouldn’t that please you?”

A few seconds passed in silence as she swiftly closed the distance between them, now simply standing a few feet apart. “At least you won’t have to hear about the whole mate thing anymore.”

A coy smile spread across her painted lips, eyes narrowing in secret thought as she watched his golden eyes. Something was going on in that small head of hers, though what it was remained unknown.

“What do you say? Help a fellow Youkai destroy a useless and annoying treaty?”

“It may.” He replied vaguely, eyeing the woman with slight suspicion; though he knew of her, he was in no position to offer blind trust. Nor would he ever, without plausible clause. It wasn’t a secret that he thought much of the policies under the treaty were…unnecessary - mostly including the ‘celebration’.

Brushing through the end strands of his hair, Sesshomaru contemplated the alliance lightly; it could prove to be useful, but, there was something about how casual she was about it that had him on guard. “I could be persuaded - but, I wonder what it is you want in exchange for my aid?”

"Ah, they were not lying when they said that you were quite intelligent. Very well." Her smile faded slightly. "I have my reasons, things you won’t care about. To put it simply… Freedom. He cared not for her reasonings, and did not respond. She could do as she wished and face the consequences if necessary. But, unfortunately, he could hear the other Lords looking for him, and without another glance, found himself in the center the festivities, waiting for the performances to begin. Most of them went unnoticed; Sesshomaru was not being pressed to take a mate, and the others had learned attempting to force him into one would not go down well on their end.

Even so, her performance was nice. Not mind-blowing to him, but certainly better then much of the others. However…he did overhear some of the other males debate on showing interested, though something told him she cared just about as much as he did on the matter of having a significant other. Inwardly, the lord sighed; he could be doing much more productive, interesting things.  He might have even taken talking to Inuyasha over this.

“So, Sesshomaru,” The Southern lord drawled, nudging him on the shoulder slightly. “Is this year gonna be it? Finally gonna pick someone?” If it weren’t for the fact that he were on friendly terms with him, Sesshomaru might have answered nastier then he did. “No, Takeshi. Not this year. Perhaps you should learn to stop gambling on this debate; it is a waste of your money.”

There was no intention of his to show interest in anyone; but, he could sense the anger from the final performer, and it drew his curiosity. At least, enough to be used as an excuse to not speak with the more…irksome attendees. Spotting the Northern lady, he moved toward her casually, getting a glass of sake along the way. “I could still sense your anger on stage, though I am sure the majority did not notice it.”

Noli confidently stepped down from the stage, turning her nose up in response to the lust filled eyes of the power hungry youkai around her. She had no desire to play their foolish games, nor entertain the thought of becoming a mate to one of them. This was not how she wanted it.

Upon seeing the Western Lord walking her way, she stopped and smiled slightly. “Why, hello Lord. Is there anything I can do for you?” His statement about her anger brought no surprise to her. Gently grabbing the glass from him and taking a sip, she replied coolly. “Of course they did not notice. Why should they? I am glad you noticed. Proves your not like these low lives.”

As she returned the glass to him, she leaned close and whispered in his ear. “If you care to know the story, then pretend to be interested and follow.”

And she left it at that, taking her leave of him as she walked through the crowd of mindless youkai towards the silent forest.

Noli looked over her shoulder at the youkai, body becoming tense. Standing up, she faced him with fiery blue eyes. “If it isn’t the Lord of the West, correct? I am surprised you attended such an annoying celebration. Are you here to seek a bride? Or perhaps just because you had no other choice?”

From the tone of her voice, she did not wish to be here as much as he did. With a wave of her slender hand, she turned her back on him once more. “I am not concerned over the matter. I am the last to perform, though I really wish I did not have to. Stupid treaty and it’s terms of agreement.” Her eyes remained on the water, watching as it made ripples when fish swam just below the surface. The crack of a branch caught her attention, and a soft sigh escaped her lips. “Looks like they decided to force me back. Have a good night, Lord. Perhaps we shall see each other again soon.”

The young lady walked past him, the slight smell of human coming off of her. It was strange, especially when she looked completely youkai. Had she spent time with humans recently? Or was she more than what she seemed?

————an hour later—————-

“Ladies and lords, welcome your lovely Lady of the North! Noli!”

She walked onto the stage, music exploding from behind her as her gentle voice echoed through the forest. There was an addictive trait to her voice, making it difficult to ignore, let alone resist. Her blue eyes scanned the crowd, landing on Lord Sesshomaru for a brief moment before closing. Many of the lords were captivated by her voice, while the ladies growled in jealousy.

Noli blocked that all out, focusing on the song so she may complete it as soon as possible and leave. Knowing quite well what this would end up as for her, and fully aware that her father was watching her every move, she restrained her anger. With any luck, she would get a betrothal from a complete idiot that would never find out her secret.
